The Beginning of a Chance

Foxtail padded around in the dirt in search of a shealter.It was evening already. She had walked many miles but yet no matter how much she walked there was no telling where she was headed or where she was from. The cool wind calmed Foxtail enough to keep moving forward. She had walked for many hours in just today alone.
I need a place to rest. she thought to herself as her stomache grumbled as well. It had been a little while since Foxtail had last eaten. She doesn't have much experience in her young age. Foxtail doesn't know how to hunt. No was ever there to teach her.
She finds a nice tree stump to lay at while she rest. Why do the nights have to be so cold and long? she thought as she pulled her big fluffy tail to lay across her hind legs. Foxtail sighs. "I wish I knew where I was from. Where I'm going. When I'll be safe at last." Fighting to defend herself at such a young age is hard on Foxtail it drains her strength. Letting out a wide yawn, Foxtail finally rest her head along side the stump. Sleeping away all her thoughts and worries. Clearing her mind. Her body laying in the moonlights that remains.

Bramble padded through the forest looking for a quick bite and stumbles upon a small kitten. "what is this doing all alone out here?" he asked himself as he got a better look of the kitten in the moon light. "seems healthy, i guess ill stay here just incase." he said as he curled up close by the kitten and fell asleep in the night.

As the morning sun comes up Foxtail slowly wakes to find a cat laying beside her. She is scared and she jumps away from the cat. What is going on here? Who is this? Foxtail thought to herself. He is still asleep so maybe I can get away before he tries to kill me like all the others. She gets up and jumps over the tree stump looking back at the sleeping cat. "Goodbye whoever you are." She says as she continues away from the cat hoping not to wake him up. But as she tries to get away quietly she continues to look back at him. Foxtail wasn't paying any attention to the small stream she had now fallen into. "Great now I am all wet." she said sticking out her tongue.

Bramble woke up to see the kitten gone. Looking around he found her scent and follows it to the water and sees the kitten. "hello little one im Bramble and you are?" he said as he got closer and too a drink of water. "do you know where your parents are?"

Foxtail looks up surprised at the cat -Bramble-. She tries to get out of the water and splashes as she falls on her butt. "I don't have p-p-parents. I was left b-behind." She said feeling like she was gonna cry, bu realizes what kind of danger she could be in and jumps to her feet with her ears back growling. "What do you want anyways?" Foxtail didn't want to be mean to him but she couldn't take the chance of being attacked and killed. She was sad inside for being mean to Bramble, but she had to keep herself safe.

"calm down little one im not here to fight" he purred gently as he sat down to wash himself "Im sorry to hear that and i want to help" he said as he continued to wash" he mewed and washed himself cleans and desided to lay down and bask in the sunlight.

Foxtail looks at Bramble curiously. "How can you help me?" She asks saddened a little and her ears stay flat against her head. "My parents aren't coming back." Foxtail cries as she sits down on the bank of the river now. "They left me there."

bramble pads over to the kitten and gently nuzzles her. "its okay little one dont cry. shhhhhh" he mews to try and clam her down "if you want i could be your um....." he stops to see what she will do at the question. He looks down on her with a soft look.

Foxtail stops crying looking at the cat at first with hate but then nuzzles him back. She shyly looks into his eyes now realizing that Bramble is much bigger than herself. "Be my...what?" Foxtail is confused by Bramble, but for some reason just being near him puts her mind at ease. He seems nice enough. She thinks to herself. Maybe I just made a friend. But be his what? Still looking at Bramble, Foxtail shifts to lay her muzzle on his shoulder purring softly.

Bramble purred and licked her headfur. "kitten" he says as he finished his earier sentence and lays down beside the kitten and lets her rest he muzzle on him as he waits for an answer.

She looks over at Bramble and lets out a yawn. "Be your kitten? Like as if you were momma?" says a little surprised. Foxtail has never had a family of her own. She doesn't know what it is to be a kitten anymore. Foxtail had to grow up fast in order to protect herself. "What d-does it mean if.... I am y-y-your kitten?" she is both embarrassed and relieved to hear Bramble wants to be her momma cat.

"yes as if im your momma cat" he purrs gently as he nuzzles her head gently. "It means that you will stay with me and i shall protect you and teach you things" he smiled.

Foxtail paws at the ground beneath her for a moment as she thinks about it. She had never been offered the chance to have a mom or a dad cat, so this was a first for her. She looked up at Bramble and took a breath. "I-I would love...to be your kitten." She said blushing softly. She was truly happy to have someone who wanted her and was willing to protect her.
Foxtail was so happy she started to shed tears of joy. "B-Bramble...thank you." And she meant it with all of her heart.
